The most important part of a new lawn is the soil preparation. A healthy lawn needs four to six inches of topsoil with the proper mix of sand, peat, and loam. I have been installing lawns in Anchorage for 30 years and have some of the healthiest lawns in town. Drainage is also important to consider in your lawn installation. Custom Designs

There are lots of elements to consider when creating a new landscape design. The following is a list that may or may not include your concept.

1)    What are we trying to accomplish?

A)   Are there children in your household?  Do we want a specific area for the kids to play in. Is the type of landscaping your thinking about safe for children?

B)   Do you have pets? Should we incorporate pet containment in our new design?

C)   What kind of maintenance are you willing to provide? Some landscapes are friendly to less maintenance than others. A lawn requires mowing, fertilizer, watering, etc. where a rock garden just requires weed control.  Annual verses perennial flowers are another example. Annuals need to be replaced each year where perennials come back each season.

D)   What is your budget for this project and what will maintenance costs be?

E)    Do we want retaining walls to terrace? Should these be made of wood, rock, or brick?

F)    Are decks, patios, walkways, fences, and storage sheds part of what you need long term on your property?

2)    What kind of trees or shrubs, are appropriate for your design?

A)   Evergreens are green all year, birch is seasonally green, remembering Alaska has harsh seasonal changes is important when deciding what to plant.

3)    What is your budget?

A)   Do you want to set up a timeline that includes phases over several seasons?  Possibly installing lawns and retaining walls this year and doing plants and patios next season?

B)   We can help you schedule according to your budget a plan that makes your project sustainable while it is a work in progress.

Winterization

At the end of each season we have certain maintenance issues that come up:

1)    Moose control

A)   We can fence your trees and shrubs to keep moose from eating them.

B)   An alternative to fencing would be to apply chemicals that paint on the actual shrubs and trees.

2)    Leaf clean-up

A)   Leafs can cause disease to your lawn as they harbor lots of different bugs including leaf rollers and aphides. We recommend raking up and disposing of as much of this material as possible

3)    Fall Fertilization

A)   I always recommend a light application of low nitrogen fertilizer and lime at this time of year.

4)    General clean-up

A)   Put away hoses and anything else that should not be outside during the winter months.

B)   Haul any unwanted trash or debris to landfill.

5)    Garage/ Backyard re-organization. You instruct crew as to meet your needs. 

6)    Finish any ongoing project such as painting, gutter repair and cleaning and install Xmas lights.

Spring Clean-up

We believe that this is very important for your yard especially if you have a lawn. The “winter melt off” always reveals a host of interesting debris weather it is the dog droppings from your neighbor or the leaves  that fell off during the last minutes of last fall. Regardless how it got there, now is the time to clean it up

We offer the following services at a 10% discount if ordered to be scheduled before April 15^th.

A)   Thatching (de-thatching) or Power raking

B)   Power Vacuuming or just manual raking

C)   Lime and Fertilization Process ( RECOMMENDED)

2)    Tree, Shrub, Hedge trimming

3)    Window Washing

5)    Trash haul, Debris removal

Mowing Services

At Tony’s Enterprises we have a “Lawn Maintenance Crew” specially set up and dedicated strictly to Lawn Maintenance Services. The same Crew will service you routinely monthly identifying the special needs of your property.

We recommend that your lawn be cut on a weekly basis to a height of no less than 2 inches. Due to the weather here in Alaska there will be times that weekly service is not possible as it has been raining consistently for several days.

Here at Tony’s Enterprises we provide Monthly Lawn Maintenance on a weekly schedule weather permitting. This service includes mowing, weedwacking as needed, and bagging of the lawn clippings for your disposal. We guarantee at least three cuttings per month on the maintenance schedule. If we have several days of bad weather we cannot promise to cut your lawn weekly but almost never go pass ten days even during bad periods. There is always additional work when the grass is tall so the price of service remains the same if we cut 3times or we cut 5 times (sometimes happens during the long months). Grass clipping removal is available at an addition charge based on quantity.
